Did you say cheap portable gps?
My friend David recently bought TomTom XL 340-S. Now after a week of using it he has shared with me his opinion about it.
He has mac, so he installed tomtom’s mac version of their home software and everything has worked well so far. He mentioned 2 things that future buyers should know.
You should be beware of limited space on the device, there’s only 2GB of internal flash memory. He advised to delete voices in language you don’t use. Once a bit of space is freed up you will be able to update the device without issue.
The other thing is USB 1.1. The device support only that version of USB. So backup or update will take quite long – around 1-2 hours.
He was talking much about advantages of TomTom, he likes the large bright screen, text2speech capability, crowd-sourced map/route updates, and cheaper southern Africa maps( he’s moving there). Especially he likes cheap sale price he found on amazon(110$).
